How to make Kheer Recipe – Rice Pudding Recipe

Kheer is traditional dessert in India and Pakistan. It is immensely popular and it is often used in festivals, customs, and religious occasions. It is a custom in many families that when a newly wed bride enters the kitchen of her new home, the first dish she prepares is Kheer. It is believed that by making kheer, the bride will bring sweetness and joy to the family. From the temples, to shrines, to houses and to restaurants. Kheer has become a tradition in itself.

Not only it is popular among adults, Kheer is equally loved by children. My girls love Kheer, and since we are observing the holy month of Ramadan, I decided to make recipe in Iftar this Friday. Now I don’t like bragging, but I am famous for my Kheer, and just as I expected, the whole family loved it. Hopefully you and your family would also enjoy this Kheer recipe. It is extremely simple to make.

  • 4 cup Milk
  • 1 cup uncooked rice
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon powder

  • 1 cup cream
  • 1/2 tsp rose water (optional)

Method

Add milk and rice in a large pot. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, and simmer for 35 minutes or until rice is tender.

Add sugar, salt, cinnamon powder and stir 10 minutes on a low flame.

Now add cream, rose water and simmer the pudding over low heat for 12 minutes.  stirring  constantly until thickened.

pudding pour into a serving bowl and allow to cool for 10 minutes  before refrigerating. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving.

Thats all no more steps, Kheer is ready to be served.

I have used Cinnamon Powder and Rose Water both are optional but if used they will add a nice smell to the Kheer.
