Jalebi Recipe

Simple easy Jalebi recipe to prepare the popular sweet at home. Jalebi is a very famous dessert or sweet in South Asian cuisine. In India and Pakistan Jalebi is known as a celebration sweet. People distribute jalebi in on special occasion like wedding parties, birthday parties, on someone’s success at job or education, and so on. It is probably the most popular and common sweet in Pakistan. Jalebi is a fried sweet, It is made by milk, sugar syrup, flour and food color. Jalebi can be served by dripping warm. It has some what chewy texture with a crystallized sugary crunch. Jalebi is commonly sold in Pakistan and India, and it is available in every sweet shop. Children specially love Jalebi. It is considered some what difficult to prepare at home. But with little practice one can easily master the recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 kg plain flour
  • 1/2 kg sugar
  • Some pinches Saffron
  • Some pinches yellow food color
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • Special mulmul cloth for jalebi
  • 1/3 tsp rung kaat
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1/2 tsp rose water
  • 1 tsp green cardamon seeds powder
  • Oil for deep frying
  • water as required

Method

In a large bowl, Add 1 cup of water first in plain flour and mix well, then add more water and mix well until smooth.

Now add baking powder, saffron pinches, rung kaat, rose water and yellow food color, Mix again until mixture is smooth. Keep set aside for 30-45 minutes.

Prepare one string syrup by dissolving sugar in the water. Just before the syrup is ready add green cardamon seeds powder.

Heat oil in karahi (deep pan), place mulmul cloth openly on bowl, add 2 cooking spoon of mixture in it and turn cloth well. ( keep cloth on bowl if mixture drop it will drop in bowl)

Make jalebi in a form of concentric circle about 2 inches on the out side. Fry till crisp, drop into sugar syrup for 5 minutes.

Drain with a perforated spoon and serve hot.

    Rang Kaat is easily available in India and Pakistan from confectioneries and sweet shops. It’s chemical name is Rongalite and you can find it in your local pharmacy too۔

    Malmal Cloth is thin fabric commonly found in India and Pakistan. It is also known as linen.

    yes it is important, however if you are unable to find it you can still try it. as Ruqqaiya reported, she was able to enjoy it even without rang kat.
